“The Gallery of Antique Gym”

BANGKOK ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION is located in a small community mall project along Saen Saep canal around Siam area in the heart of Bangkok. The area before renovation has a single room with Glasshouse section where next to Saep Saep canal flanking the walkway. The space has potential to be a gallery display and because a traffic only have pedestrians and passenger boats pass through. Therefore there is not much congestion and chaos make the privacy for users in the area.

The space design is divided into 2 parts.

Relaxation space : in this area there will also be a welcome space. Want to create awareness of nature relaxation when entering the space. Therefore, the area was arranged in the Glasshouse area with natural light shining throughout the day.

Exercise space : need to concentrate and focus on exercising. Therefore, it was placed the inside area which has more privacy.

Design & Details

“Wood” is a material that gives a sense of warmth, relaxation, calm and nature by touched. It is a charming material. The pattern is unique. Therefore use it as the main material for decorating the project, from floors, walls, ceilings, doors, windows, including almost every piece of exercise equipment all custom made by wood.

The wooden door for reception entrance designed to be curved. Helps open your perspective in a narrow space to look more broadly
Wall is designed as a gallery to display sports equipment called the Indian Club. Some pieces are original antiques and some we have machined from scratch. Make the size and proportion suitable for use and is as close to the original as possible.

Floor weight bearing on different areas materials must be selected that are suitable for supporting each point. In areas where small equipment is used, such as weight training, it must be able to absorb shock. The floor was then covered with absorbent foam sheets. As for the area where heavy equipment is placed must use a hard floor for stable balance. Therefore chose to cover it with real wood.

There will be some exercise positions that require you to lie on your back. Your eyes were forced to look at the ceiling. In addition to seeing the decoration of the ceiling with real wood trim. We have also placed the lights in a location that does not disturb the eye. To make exercise go smoothly. Users are most focused.

Exercise equipment choose to use wood and leather to cover the parts that your hand touches. Increases stability in holding and placing. Selection of wood materials for the handle part to emphasize the movement of the hands and help reduce skin friction. The leather-covered surface reduces shock.

The design of this Gym emphasizes the use of real wood in dark tones as the main material. Contrasting with textured plaster walls and metal details to emphasize craftsmanship and antiqueness, combined with some unique antique equipment. Results in a unique experience for users and an aesthetic that is as special as coming to view a private gallery that is still connected to the way of life of people that occur in the external context
